Format

The mode of activity is by open meetings, forums and workshops. These are organized in each theme in a regular manner. People need to met several times to build up community and exchange.

Open meeting is for exchanging ideas freely. At a forum we have 1-2 presentations and there is time allocated for extensive discussion. Each workshop has a main session and other sessions.

Open meetings and forums are free of charge. That builds up interest and personal networks. We learn about new things by the presentations. From time to time it is suitable to have more exchange, and a workshop is better option. A workshop requires more planning and administrative work to invite and make agenda. That is handled by IW-Global and there is a registration fee. There will be online workshops to build momentum. That will build understanding about which concepts are suitable for a physical workshop that can be from time to time. The physical workshops will be more meaningful when there are several online workshops which clarify interests and concepts. That is also suitable for reducing CO2 emission when we travel less. The physical workshops will be more efficient since key areas are identified for deeper discussion and collaboration. Overall this creates a systematic exchange that is long-term, and builds a stable platform in the thematic area that can be active for years. Overall the interactions will undoubtedly lead to ideas about project applications, collaborations, etc for those who are visible and active.

OPEN MEETING

To come to new insights, we must think openly. Any agenda will immediately guide thoughts to certain directions and limit unexpected ideas.

FORUM

This is very useful for those who want to disseminate their work in the thematic area. This is by one or two presentations. Each presentation should be 10-15 minutes (not too long, not too short). After that there is up to 15 minutes allocated for discussions. Often there are questions on the presentation at first, and other types of ideas and suggestions will follow when there is sufficient time. That interaction often give collaboration ideas and build your network with new contacts.

WORKSHOP

The main session is with the workshop chair and 2-3 invited speakers. This is an opportunity for a researcher to be chair. The chair and selected main speakers will have more visibility.

Speakers for following sessions will be from invitation to workshop. It is up to the chair to be active to invite to workshop. IW-Global will help (see information below). Depending on the number of speakers, the workshop can be 1-3 days.

INTERACTIVE MODE

We are using an interactive format. Each presentation will be about 50:50 presentation and discussion. The total time is 20 minutes. That allows for sufficient time for having exchange after the presentation. That will create interaction and a professional research discussion which will result in new insights and possible (new) collaborations. That interaction is valuable for building your visibility and network.

The number of presentations for a full day should be about 10-15. That allows for time to discuss. It is not about how many presentations there will be. It is about how useful and constructive the discussions and interactions will be. It is also recommended to do workshop regularly. That builds momentum over time. This is an advantage of the low workshop fee. You can be at 10 workshops at the same cost as one conference fee!

Online mode for global reach

The workshop is online via Zoom. You decide topic and date. IW-Global will take care of all practical arrangements. The only thing you will do is to invite in your network and act as workshop chair. We will arrange booklet of workshop and co-chair to handle all technical details and keep track to follow the workshop agenda. You will be formal chair of workshop, and by that get the credit of being organizer. We will also invite using our Empiriworld channels. That gives you visibility.

More efficient by workshop format

International conferences with physical meeting are nice. However, everyone can not travel due to budget and time. There will be limitations on how many travels we can do per year due to climate change. Large conferences are more suitable for dissemination, networking and get new contacts. Once you have built a network and want to create more impact in your topic, then smaller meetings are more efficient. That is the advantage of workshop format.

When you chair your own international workshop, IW-Global takes care of the practical arrangements, and shares in our network and social channels. The purpose is to create interaction and in between areas which usually do not have exchange. That will grow more understanding from new insights and build network. As chair you will have visibility and position as leading in your area.
